Construction
An addition can be a complex operation starting from the bottom of the hole in the ground up to the tie in or the roof. If the footer is to high or low, then the floor of the addition may not meet the floor of the existing house. It is critical that your contractor have a good understanding of how the structural components work. Construction covers a lot more than just additions. Removal of bearing walls to open up an area to breaking thru walls to create an opening and enlarging an opening, are examples of where the knowledge of construction is important.

Bearing walls can be removed in a number of ways. A beam can be placed below the ceiling to carry the load. In most situations the ideal way places the beam between the joist then you can have a flat ceiling.

There is an old saying "a stitch in time saves nine." This is important when considering home maintenance. Some items can be put off with little consequence while others might do great damage. A leak can damage walls ceilings and even the homes structural elements. Leaks cause mold that can harm the inhabitants health.
